Shooter/Action

Thunderbirds is a shooter/action game published by Cobra Team and based on the classic 60's British TV show of the same name remembered for its cast of character puppets. In the 21st century, the ex-astronaut Jeff Tracy and his five sons create the private International Rescue organization. On board the highly advanced Thunderbids machines, their mission is to react to major crisis situations around the world. The Hood is the recurring antagonist of the series and is determined to steal the International Rescue's technology. The player controls the Thunderbirds and performs perilous rescue missions across the globe. Six locations (called "Accident Cases") are available at the beginning of the game and can be played in any order - they range from giant-ant infested refineries to underwater facilities inhabited by ravenous sea monsters. The player pilots various International Rescue vehicles throughout the game and the action alternates from one rescue scene to the other. Each scene provides the player with a unique task to complete such as extinguishing a blaze or rescuing race cars from shifting quicksand.

Thunderbirds are go ! and gone... I wish I could be positive and enthusiastic about this game, but the things it does well are diminished by its myriad of things it does badly, or not at all. While it had great potential - excellent graphics and controls - it just doesn't reach the expectations we would come to expect. It is not a straight shooter per se; rather its stages are divided into "rescue" events that range from collecting boxes to blasting mountain rocks so they don't crush small houses. There are a couple of fun (yet short) sections but they don't really make up for the rest of the game though. Here you have it - anyone looking for a fun shooter should pass on this one. Fans of the series or anyone looking for something different should give it a try but be aware of its shortcomings.
