Harapeko Bakka is a cute and simple puzzle/action game by Magical. It features T-Rex like dinosaurs with googly eyes and the goal of the game is to lay as many colored eggs as possible within a time limit. The playfield is a 9x9 grid and each dinosaur automatically drop eggs as he (or she) moves around it. In a way similar to the popular Othello-type board game, surrounded eggs automatically change to the color of the encompassed eggs. Thanks to this feature, the outcome of a game is always uncertain and a win can be pulled off at the last second. Our dinosaurs can also change the color of any laid egg by ingesting it but this technique wastes time and can often cause our friends to give up the lead. A match is won by the dinosaur who wins the best of three rounds. A multi-player mode is also available where up to four players can fight against each other.

Harapeko Bakka is what happens if you give Yoshi big T-Rex teeth - you get an egg-laying and angry 'Yoshisaurus'. Everything in the game smells, looks, sounds and screams "Nintendo" - the colorful and childish graphics, the joyful tunes and the charming overall ambiance. The only exception to this idyllic picture is a short and repetitive gameplay. By the time you win the first match you will have experienced most of what Harapeko Bakka has to offer - and this is the game's biggest flaw, like eating a candy that looks sweet from the outside but just tastes bland and dry on the inside. This is a shame, our stupid looking pet dinosaurs are adorable and Harapeko Bakka could have easily been a hit in its time if it had been more polished and enriched with more features.
