You take control of Argyderos, a mecha, which is driven by a girl
pilot Minty Geile. It is a traditional shooter/platform game, each stage
is pretty huge and a big villain is waiting for you at the bottom of it.
You start the game with a simple Vulcan gun which will get warm and you will
lose fire power if you use it too often. Each stage has a save point
(sort of small transporter shown on the second picture below) and you
will receive a password.

Parts of Eternal City were designed by Masamume Shirow (Ghost in the Shell,
Appleseed, Black Magic, Dominion Tank Police etc...). More than being a mangaka and
an illustrator, Shirow also helped for the design of many games like 'Ghost in the
Shell' (Playstation), 'Trinia' (Superfamicom) and many others, he also designed
the game cover of 'winds of Thunder' (PCEngine CD). As Shirow mentioned himself
in 'Intron Depot 1' (one of his famous art book), he designed six villains in
Eternal City, the main robot, his pilot and the game cover, without really
knowing what was the game about.

I am sure you reacted the same way I did the first time I
saw Eternal City in the shelves: whaaooo, a game
designed by Masamune Shirow, and by Naxat Soft !. But all
the game expectations went away when I inserted the game HuCard
and turned the power on. Graphics are average and the gameplay
is really poor. It is not catastrophic but still disappointing...
